Dress Code at Stahl Junior High

To: Parents of Stahl Junior High Students 2011-2012
From: Troy Hodge, Principal, Joan Forseth, Assistant Principal
Reason: Appropriate dress at our school

Although we do not have a school uniform, we do have a dress code. Students may not be allowed to attend class if their clothing does not meet dress code requirements and/or is deemed to be a distraction. In these cases, students will be detained in the office until they are able to change into acceptable attire. Dress code violations will be recorded and progressive disciplinary action will be taken. Girls are not to wear “revealing” tops, short skirts, show any midriff skin, etc. Boys can’t “sag and drag” and will need a belt if wearing pants that are too big for them. None of our students should wear tank tops or show bare shoulders. Dress and appearance can help facilitate a positive learning climate.

The following are specific points as spelled out in the “Rights and Responsibilities” section of the student handbook:

  • No clothing with words, depictions or themes related to alcohol, tobacco, or drug use, or gang affiliations
  • No “holey” jeans.  Jeans with holes above the knee are not allowed under any circumstances. Leggings underneath or covering holes with duct tape is not ok.
  • No sexually oriented text, themes, or depictions
  • Except for t-shirts, undergarments must be covered at all times
  • Pants are not to be sagging
  • Skirts and shorts must not be any higher than the middle of the thigh even with tights, spandex, etc. underneath
  • Blouses/shirts and tops must not expose the waist, hips, or midriff
  • No tube, one-shouldered, low cut, halter, spaghetti strap, see through, or bareback tops
  • No jewelry that presents safety hazards, such as safety pins, chains, spikes, dog leashes, etc.
  • No hats or head covering (including bandanas of any color) may be worn during school hours
  • All students must wear shoes, slippers are not allowed
  • Sunglasses must not be worn unless for medical reasons.

Thank you, parents, for your support in these areas.
