DORIS M. STAHL
After completing her
education at Central Washington College, Doris M. Stahl began her teaching career
in 1939 in the Montesano School District near Aberdeen. In 1942, she signed
with the Puyallup School District as a junior high spelling and penmanship teacher.
In 1956 Doris transferred
to the new East Junior High School (Kalles) and in 1968 moved to Rogers High
School when its doors opened. Two years later she was involved in yet another
opening when Ballou Junior High began classes. There she taught Reading, English
and Journalism for 12 years. Upon her retirement in the spring of 1981, Doris
Stahl had taught for 33 years in the Puyallup School District, 31 at the junior
high level.
People remember Doris
M. Stahl as a person "who exemplified the highest qualities toward which
all educators aspire," "who was an inspiration to both student and
colleague" and a person "who cared for each and every student as she
consistently taught sound principles of self-esteem along with her academic
responsibilities." Doris influenced everyone around her in a positive way
whether they were students, student teachers, fellow faculty members, or administrators.
Doris Stahl passed away
on January 20, 1983. In February 1983, the Doris M. Stahl Memorial Scholarship
was established for a graduating Rogers High School senior who had attended
Ballou Junior High. Doris M. Stahl Junior High School has been named in honor
of a teacher who represented excellence in the teaching profession and in the
Puyallup School District. She was the consummate junior high teacher and was
loved, respected, and appreciated by all who knew her.
