From the Principal

Dear Zeiger Families,

Student placement is one of our most important tasks. We work hard to build classrooms that are positive learning environments. The task is always challenging as the needs of our students are so diverse.

During the month of May, our staff compiles detailed information about each student. This information is the foundation for in-depth placement meetings involving teachers, administrators, specialists and the counselor. The staff then builds classes according to student’s academic, emotional and behavioral needs.

If you have information you would like considered in this process, please submit it in writing to Mrs. Ake. Forms are available in the front office.

The best information we can receive from you is a very specific description of your child’s needs, the type of learning environment your child does best in and any other information you would like to share with us. Parent requests are not confidential and are shared with the entire staff team. Specific teacher requests will not be accepted and will not be used for our placement meetings. We can never guarantee a particular teacher but we can guarantee that we will work hard to meet your child’s needs and your input will be given careful consideration. Classroom placement may change up through the beginning of September based on staffing and student enrollment.

Placement forms will be available in the main office and must be submitted by May 4th.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Zeiger: A "School of Distinction"

Four schools win statewide recognition for academic improvement
Kalles Junior High and Zeiger, Woodland, and Sunrise elementary schools have each been recognized as a “School of Distinction” for being among the top 5 percent of schools statewide that demonstrated sustained academic achievement in reading and math.

This is the second consecutive year that Kalles Junior High and Zeiger Elementary have received the statewide recognition.

The four Puyallup schools are among 94 statewide that will be honored during a regional awards ceremony planned in December. A banner will be presented to each school proclaiming it as a “2010 School of Distinction Award Winner.”

Each school had to have scored at or above the state average in math and reading in grades four, seven, or 10 on the 2010 Measurement of Student Progress or High School Proficiency Exam. Schools that met that requirement were then evaluated for academic gains in both subjects over the past five years.

The award is co-sponsored by The Center for Educational Effectiveness and the Washington chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International.

The following schools received this award in past years:

2009
Kalles Junior High
Fruitland Elementary
Hunt Elementary
Zeiger Elementary
