Absences: Good attendance is essential for students to learn. Students must come to school in accordance with the State Attendance Law. At Mt. View we value learning. Verification of student absences and tardiness is a check on a student's safe arrival at school. Parents/guardians are required to send a note explaining the reason for each absence. The note should include the day of absence, nature of illness and the parent/guardian signature. We would appreciate a call to the office the day of the absence. We are required to document absences and follow procedures when excessive or unexcused absences or late arrivals occur. Students must report directly to the office if they arrive late to school.
Please complete a pre-planned absence form if you know in advance your child will be absent. We encourage regular attendance and hope you will limit vacations and appointments to outside the regular scheduled school days. We encourage you to make appointments on Wednesdays when school is dismissed at 12:31.
E-mail Janet Storm or Kris Wilkinson if you are in need of additional absence information at StormJY@puyallup.k12.wa.us

Early Dismissal of a Student: At Mt. View we make every moment valuable. Students who arrive late or leave early disrupt the flow of the classroom for all students. We ask for your assistance in this matter. Please make every effort to arrange appointments on non-school days to allow your child to have every opportunity to be engaged in learning. We encourage you to make appointments on Wednesday afternoons when school is being dismissed at 12:21. Thank you for helping teach the valuable habit of being at school and being on time.

1. If a student needs to be dismissed early from school, they must bring a note from home signed by the parent.
A phone call is also acceptable.
2. When the student's parent arrives at school, they must come to the office to sign the student out.
3. When reentering school the student must report directly to the office and notify the office staff that they have returned, then they may return to class. (This procedure only applies to students leaving school early and reentering school the same day.
4. Students who are absent from school for one or more days need to bring a written excuse explaining the reason for the absence.

Medication: Any medication requires a form from the physician if a child is to take medication at school. These forms are available from the school secretary or nurse. Both physician and parent permission is required before medication will be given.

Planned Absences: It is very important for students to attend school everyday. However, if you know of an absence ahead of time, please complete a pre-planned absence form. By completing this form ahead of time it will allow classroom teachers sufficient time to prepare work to send with the student. Forms are available from classroom teacher and/or at the office.

Student Management Plan: To help students learn how to handle their own problems, the staff teaches each child to use the Mt. View 4-Step Problem Solver. When someone is bothering you...
1. IGNORE and move away
2. ASK them to stop
3. WARN them to stop or you'll tell an adult
4. TELL an adult
If you are bothering someone, it is your responsibility to SHOW RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND STOP WHEN ASKED
